Sleeping With The TV On (Sweet Dreams) by Dave the Chimp
Dave's work is about balance. Black and white, good and bad, right and wrong, yin and yang. One cannot exist without the other.
Hidden beneath a cloak of incredible cuteness, Dave's creatures suffer from broken hearts, hatred, despair, and hopelessness. The most colorful characters populate the darkest alleys. Where there is much light, there is much shadow—or, without shadow, there is no light.
Sleeping With The TV On (Sweet Dreams) is Dave's first print with rikiki , and a perfect example of this duality. A cozy scene that transforms from one moment to the next when the lights go out.
"We live in a TV-slumber world, numbed to inertia by organized religion and fast food, and we should remember that for all our superiority, we are still animals, and death is always near. Awareness of death allows us to live our lives in the here and now, in this moment. Death is not the enemy—it reminds us that we are alive. The enemy is sleep. Wake up!"
