The SSDr chair took a year and a half to develop. The goal was to create a beautiful, useful and sustainable piece of furniture. There is almost no use of recycled plastic in the furniture industry. TIPTOE's SSDr chair is further proof that plastic waste can be upcycled and transformed into timeless and durable objects. In this version of the SSD chair, the seat and backrest are not made of wood, but of recycled PP plastic. PP or polypropylene is a common type of plastic found in food containers, household appliances, car parts and much more.
The SSDr chair's monochrome look makes it a sleek and contemporary chair. In keeping with TIPTOE's product design DNA, the SSDr chair legs are made of steel and come in the same colors as the TIPTOE table legs. These colors have been carefully chosen to match the wood of the TIPTOE tables. The SSDr's seat has been designed with comfort in mind. The inclination and roundness of the curves allow you to sit comfortably on it for long periods of time. The SSDr's sophisticated ergonomics make it suitable as a chair for offices and dining rooms.
The SSDr is simple: it can be assembled in 2 minutes with just one screw and consists of only 5 easily replaceable parts.
The SSDr is strong: 100% made in Europe, by small and medium-sized companies with exceptional know-how, including TIPTOE's family factory in France near Chamonix.
The SSDr is built to last: it is made from durable materials and comes in a flat package made from at least 80% recycled paper. The SSDr package is about three times more compact than a traditional chair and reduces CO2 emissions during storage and shipping.
The SSDr is recycled: the backrest and seat of the SSDr chair are made of recycled PP plastic.
TIPTOE uses recycled PP plastic (polypropylene) due to its specific technical and mechanical properties that combine flexibility and resistance.
The PP plastic is collected, sorted and cleaned before being shredded into small pieces. It is then made into pellets that are melted and injected into a bespoke mould. While many pieces of furniture are made from 'virgin' PP plastic, very few are made from recycled plastic.
TIPTO's stated goal is to show that plastic waste can be given a second life and recycled into desirable, durable and useful furniture. The SSDr chair is not only made from recycled plastic - it is also 100% recyclable.
