The Alpine strawberry Baron von Solemacher is an old German variety that produces delicate, deep red, sweet and juicy berries up to 25 mm in diameter. Although we're not sure who this Baron was, we do know that the variety first appeared at FC Heinemann, a German seed merchant, in 1935.
Alpine strawberries are hardy perennials that bloom and bear fruit from late spring until the first frost. They're an early-fruiting variety—the first strawberries can develop as early as three months after sowing. Eat them raw or as a strawberry pie—you'll love the sweetness and intoxicating aroma of these strawberries, which fills any room with a beautiful fragrance.
